Welcome to the Parents/Guardians

Dear Parents/Guardians,

My name is Hillary Kerr and I will be your child’s grade four homeroom teacher for the 2016-2017 school year. I graduated from Brock University’s Concurrent Education program for the Intermediate Senior division, with teachables in History and Drama. After I graduated teachers college I soon became qualified to teach the Junior division through Brock University’s Additional Qualification course. I am a new teacher but I will use all of my knowledge and passion to ensure a great school year for my students and for you.

I plan to create a 21st century classroom in which we balance teacher directed learning with student directed learning. I hope to use a variety of tools and resources throughout the year to get the students active within their education.

I do have specific academic expectations of the students, which correlate with the Achievement Chart within the Language curriculum. Students will be evaluated based on their Knowledge and Understanding, Thinking, Communication, and Application skills.

Along with the learning expectations I have daily classroom expectations, which are listed on a bulletin board in the classroom. I expect all students to be on time for class and to give notice prior to their absences. Students must be respectful to one another, as there is a zero tolerance for bullying policy. I expect the students to be respectful of myself and the other teachers they interact with. In return I will always respect the students and their individual needs. I will do my best to help the students as individuals and create an environment in which all students can succeed.

The school follows the balanced school day system and ten-day class cycle. Students are expected to have their agendas signed every night along with other documents sent home. Additional copies will be added to the class website in case they disappear in their backpacks. Please do your best to return the documents in a timely manner.

Throughout the year I do hope to see your faces around the classroom, as you are always welcome to contact me about any issue and to volunteer within the school. We are always grateful for your help and support!

There is a parent teacher night coming up soon, and I look forward to meeting you all then!

Miss Kerr
